Even More Give and Take Applique!
We had so much fun in Creston with the Give and Take Applique I wanted to share more pictures! As a teacher, it is so exciting to see what designs inspiration my students can come up with and they really exploded with this concept of positive/negative designs.
Ruth created a paper cut design for her wall hanging and had fun with a variety of red fabrics.
Syd pieced some of the applique fabrics to add even more interest to her piece and has a variety of layout options to consider. I really like the way she has turned the blocks so the orientation changes.
Thanks to a wonderful group of ladies who made me feel so welcome, shared with creativity and had such a good time!
See you at Quilt Canada, I hope!

More Give and Take Applique!
Here are some more pictures of the ladies in Creston and their work on Give and Take Applique. What a difference in their work when they have two days for designs and creation. No one was rushed and they were able to create some very exciting designs. Great job, everyone!
More tomorrow!
Brigitte used a Hawaiian style design in batiks for her piece, I could see this design in a lovely bed size quilt as well!
Connie played with a more ornate design and I love what is happening in the centre where the blocks meet.
Donna has some wonderful designs that could be used in so many different ways and she has a wonderful use of detail in these designs.
Joanne was inspired by a sketch of a quilting design to create this unique arrangement. We had lots of fun trying out different layout possibilities!
Linda used a circlular design for her work and I'm really looking forward to see what she develops with this!

Give and Take Applique
Again in Creston with a wonderful group of ladies who jumped in with both feet and came up with excting designs using my Give and Take Applique technique. See my patterns at http://www.patchworkstudio.com/
Give and Take Applique uses both the positive and negative of any designs and when the blocks are placed in different arrangmenets, exciting things take place!
Here are some of my students work, they really took the concept and ran with it!

Stained Glass Class
I was in Creston BC a short time ago and had five wonderful days of classes. The location was superb, a lovely community hall with good lighting, 8 ft. tables for each students and lots of walk around space. Every teachers dream place!
The students learned my Too Easy Stained Glass method, an easy fusible web tecnique for creating intricate details and lines! I have several patterns and my latest Simple Stained Glass book here: http://www.patchworkstudio.com/
The students took some basic designs and really had fun exploring what they could do with their fabrics and additional details!

Stamping Monday
Over the next few Stamping Monday topics, I'll be discussing texture: how to make textured stamps, where to use them and some additional tips to make your textured stamps more interesting and useful.
Today I've carved some Speedy Cut stamps, one 2" square and one 1" square. I've made different designs on each side to get the most out of them. You could make them all different sizes and certainly I've found rectangles to be another very useful shape, especially if you make them different widths.
I've used the smallest V gouge in my cutting set and made small scratches at an angle to the sides. Rotate 180 degrees and make more scratches. The material will cut very easily and so needs just the lightest pressure with the cutter.
I've also cut into the edges of each stamp to make the designs appear just a bit irregular.
I've used black paper for stamping with metallic and bright Fluid Acrylics. Metallic Jacquard paints on black fabrics would be stunning.
Remember to rotate the stamps so the designs will turn and create more visual interest.
See you next Monday!

Photo Illusion
I was teaching at Serge and Sew http://www.sergesew.com/ on Tuesday and the students created some wonderful pieces using their own pictures and inspiration. I brought my printer and we used both fabric printer sheets from Electric Quilt Company http://www.electricquilt.com/ and Extravorganza silk organza sheets for the printer http://www.jacquardproducts.com/
Carolyn used some pictures of her grand children dressed as angels for the Christmas pagaent.
Judy had a wonderful picture of a hummingbird from her holiday in Costa Rica. She also will use lots of floral fabrics, fussy cut and appliqued around the border. I'm sure it will be stunning!
Mary has a picture of her grandson and was all set for quilting!
I'll be teaching this class at the North Carolina Quilt Symposium http://www.charlottequiltersguild.org/ in Charlotte, NC in June and then at Quilting in the Trees http://www.quiltvictoriaquiltersguild.org/
Maybe I'll see you there!

Vintage pictures are a great way to make memory pieces, especially if you make one for each member of the family! This quilt will be stunning with the contrast of black, white and red!
Maybe I'll see you there!
