Paris is Always a Good Idea.....

Maybe you are thinking of Paris in the springtime? I was, when I made a set of beautiful linen cushions for my daughter and son in law for Christmas. I used some words and text plus line drawings with my Thermofax machine and they came out beautifully! Of course I forgot to take some photos, but they looked a bit like this one:

So I thought it might be fun to make some more Thermofax screens  for everyone to use and make their own fabulous linen cushions.
So here is a sample of what yours might look like:

And here are the images that I've used:

So go ahead and make yours by ordering the set here:

And send me a picture, because Paris is Always a Good Idea!

Colour Play!

Last week I ordered a 25 metre bolt of white PFD (prepared for dyeing) fabric. I used it all up in less than a week! Its been a dyeing frenzy around here, with colour, dye, rinsing and washing happening at all hours of the day and night. Actually I had a great system of dyeing a batch first thing in the morning and rinsing it in the afternoon and then dyeing more and having it ready to rinse in the morning before beginning the dye process all over again.
I was concentrating on half metre pieces and doing colour gradations as well as some planned colour movements. I'll be taking all these with me when I'm lecturing this month for my own Victoria Quilters Guild and next month for the Boundary Bay Quilters Guild.
What do you think of these beauties?

I added threads to some of the fabrics in my colour gradations and made up these totally awesome packs that I've added to my store. So you can order them here: http://fabricimagery.com/category/colour-play/
I've got five colourways right now but will be adding more as I create them. Each pack contains four 11" x 18" fat eights and four 10 yard skeins of perle cotton, all packed up just for you! You can't stop at just one!

New Work - a little smaller this time!

I've been preparing for three shows this summer, the Sooke Fine Arts Show, the Bowker Creek Brush Up, and a Surface Design show at the Metchosin Art Gallery.....whew!
I've had fun making some small pieces with fabric and stitch to offer at a lower price point. I love the matting, they look so clean and neat! I think they're fun. You can buy some if you can't make it to any of my shows: http://fabricimagery.com/category/art/

Here they are:

Awesome New Stencil Shipment!

I just got a shipment of new stencils and have loaded them onto my site at http://fabricimagery.com/category/stencils/ I think some of these designs are absolutely wonderful, think of the many ways that you can use these images.....paint, Shiva sticks, discharge paste. And of course, I'm thinking about using soy wax.....not sure how that would work! Some are 6"x 6" and others are 8 1/2" x 11"

There are so many possibilities, I'm rushing to my studio right now to play! Here's one I did earlier with the Cathedral series:

New Fat Quarters - Great Printing Technique

I've been using some of my print rollers that a friend makes. They are old rolling pins that have been taken apart, lathed into designs and then put back together. They work very well with both textile paints and thickened dyes. I'm sure they'd work with other media as well. You can check them out here: http://studiogart.com/rollers/

Here are some of the fat quarters I now have for sale at: http://fabricimagery.com/category/fat-quarters-pr-st/

Nothing subtle about this piece!, its been dyed, soy wax resisted and then roller printed. One of my favs!

Its all about green and the tropics here!

A little more subdued, perfect as a background of applique or mixed media.....

Happy 4th Blog-versary!

I just realized that its been four years since I began to blog....so many ideas and inspiration. Creativity and design have been a huge part of my life and I love to share with others through teaching, writing and more.
This is what I wrote four years ago:

Hi everyone,
I've become a blogger...its true! My children would say "about time, Mum!" I hope this is going to be easy...I'm not much of a techie/computer savvy person, so we'll see how this goes.
Welcome to my page and let's get started..... I'm hoping to post every couple of days, keeps me on track and focused. I'm hoping for lots of pictures to put up, its good to read stuff, but much more fun to "see". Just have to figure out how to do that!

Well, hasn't technology changed even in that short a space of time, now I use Facebook and YouTube as well, who would have thought?

So to celebrate I'm offering 15% off anything (before shipping) in my store at http://www.fabricimagery.com/ Just enter code QC11 and you'll automatically get that 15% off at the checkout. How amazing is that??? Act now, because the sale ends on February 29th!

New Year - New Beginnings

I love the start of a new year, so many possibilities open up, its time for a fresh start and its exciting to look ahead to the future. Its like opening a window, taking a deep breath of fresh air and gazing out at a new vista (personally, I picture Tuscany outside the window)!

This year is going to be an especially different year for me; I have changed my business model and have sold my half of Patchworks Studio (my pattern design business) to my business partner, Daphne Greig. This decision was an amicable one as I decided to spend more time in teaching, writing and my own art work. I am very excited to have more time to be creative and delve into colour, imagery, pattern and more.

I am also embarking on a busy schedule of teaching and travel with trips to the Maritimes, the US and the Prairies planned.  I have new classes planned through www.quiltuniversity.com and new products for my website.

Most importantly, I am now the proud Grandma to two wonderful little babes and I’m looking forward to that new part of my life as I watch these two little ones discover the world and learn about all the wonderous things in their lives.

We can never be creative in isolation and its only through the support and inspiration of others such as yourselves that we can fully realize all that we can be, so thank you! I’ve decided that this year is going to be my best yet, and I’m thrilled with all the possibilities!
