Shattered Angles-Student Work

I've been on the road a fair bit so far this year and have taught my Shattered Angles design a number of times. I'm always amazed at the wonderful work that my students produce, its great to get pictures!

Marvella in Haliburton, Ontario finished her quilt for a raffle at the Princess Margaret Cancer Research Foundation in Toronto. Its a little hard to see, but the centre panel has a forest of tress and Marvella appliqued some deer near the bottom of the panel.

Bobbie in North Dakota played around with cutting her strips at different angles and got a delightfully quirky design. I love the border fabric she chose!

Vel on Mayne Island chose a beautiful setting to photograph her quilts, don't you just love the view? She also has her Gingko Table Runner that she designed in my Give & Take Applique class, its such a lovely layout setting!

To celebrate all these wonderful quilts I'm offering 20% off all my books for the month of July. You can order them here: http://fabricimagery.com/category/books/ and type in JULY20 before you check out. Thanks for all the great inspiration!

Shattered Angles Class

Have you ever tried on-line learning? I teach at http://www.quiltuniversity.com/ where many very talented teachers from around the world offer over 120 different classes! That's a "lot of learning"!
Registration is open for my Shattered Angles class that begins on April 12th, its a chance to learn in the comfort of your home, even in your pyjamas!
The class will run for four weeks and is made up of three lessons. The project is a variation of a "stack, slash, shuffle and sew" method that I developed. Its a great way to use fat quarters, some of your stash of scraps or even a collection of themed fabrics. Perfect for hand dyed or painted fabrics as well.
I hope you'll consider joining me and having a lot of fun. Here are some pictures to tempt you:

Autumn Joy - learn to use colour for interest and contrast
Sacred Places - random placements yield interesting results

Scattered Roses - only three fabrics!

Use It Up! - extraordinary uses for ALL your scraps!

Student Work

I want to show some students work from this year. These are from some of the workshops I've taught and books I've written. I'm so proud of the wonderful work  they have done!

Daniela Tiger made this wall hanging from my book Fat Quarter Frenzy. The project is called Empress Tiles and uses 4 1/2" strips in a "stack, slash, shuffle and sew" technique.

Janice Hebert made these two quilts using my Shattered Angles technique. This project is so versatile for Jelly Rolls, strips, and scraps, most quilters can't make just one! You can find it in my Accent on Angles book at www.fabricimagery.com

Louise Hardy from PEI made this Shattered Angles quilt when I visited the island last May as part of the Agnes Boal Bursary from the Canadian Quilters Society. We had a wonderful time!

I teach the Shattered Angles technique to many groups and guilds, maybe you would like to learn? Just email me and we can plan a workshop!

More Shattered Angles

Last week I spent two lovely days on Mayne Island with the Quilt Guild. The weather was typical west coast (meaning it was raining with brief interruptions of raining really hard)! But there was lots of action in the Agriculture Hall when 16 dedicated quilters took my Shattered Angles class one day and my Give & Take Applique class the following day.
Great fun was had by all, especially me!

Quilters are gathered around the Shattered Angles blocks they made. Such a bright assortment of colours!

Creativity abounds when the quilters learn how to make Give & Take Applique blocks.
Thanks for such a wonderful trip!

Shattered Angles Workshop

I spent the day with the Parksville Schoolhouse Quilt Guild and we worked on my Shattered Angles technique from my book: Accent on Angles. It was a wonderful day of play with colour and fabrics in a lovely workshop setting with lots of natural light and plenty of table space, hurrah!
Here are glimpses of the action:

Diane is playing with different ways to arrange her blocks.

Chris has her blocks laid out and ready to sew together.

Wilma is in the midst of cutting her strip units into blocks.

Fran is busy with her block arrangements.

Thanks to all the ladies for a super fun day and to Margaret for arranging and planning the weekend. Tomorrow is another great time as we work with photos on fabric.
I'm lucky to be staying at the Seameadows Farm Bed and Breakfast www.seameadowsfarm.com, a beautiful location with animals, gardens and an ocean view, what could be better!

Shattered Angles - Bracebridge, ON

Last week I had the privilege of teaching my Shattered Angles technique to the Pine Tree Quilt Guild in Bracebridge, Ontario. I drove from my daughters house near Ottawa, through Algonquin Park on a lovely spring day and arrived in Muskoka area while the sun was still shining!
The members of the guild learned my Shattered Angles technique and had fun trying out new fabric combinations.

Carol decided to work with my Dragon Bones technique instead

Shattered Angles in St. Albert

I'm in Edmonton right now, doing some teaching. I had a lovely day with the St Albert Quilt Guild, I'm envious that they had their own dedicated space in the local Civic Centre, a lovely room with great lighting and space.
Here are some of the ladies with their Shattered Angles projects:

Shattered Angles - Victoria Style!

Did you know how much I love to teach? Students around the world are the best part about teaching and I spent Saturday teaching in my own home town for friends in my guild....Victoria Quilters Guild!
I also taught my favourite class: Shattered Angles!!

Here are some pictures from the class, students had a blast playing with strips, sets and blocks and they came up with lovely combinations.
Bev chose vibrant reds and lime for her colours.

Karen is our Guild President and although she says hot pink is not her favourite colours....I wonder?

Lynn used a wonderful rainbow of colours from rich reds through to vibrant purples. You can see that all combinations work well!
Shelley is working with an autumn palette, not her usual combination.

Grace said she had a baby quilt in mind for her Shattered Angles quilt. ande her white insertions strips will work well here!

Loius chose black and white for her strip sets with bright pastels for the insertion strips, yummy!

Here's the gang with some of their completed blocks! Thank you so much ladies! Don't forget that you can order the book Accent on Angles from my shop http://www.fabricimagery.com/

The kit includes my Accent on Angles book and all fabric to complete the top of the runner for $35.00.

Shattered Angles in Florida

Last week I had the good fortune to visit the Lake County Quilt guild in Tavares Florida. They are an enthusiastic and supportive group of quilters (can't say ladies as they have men in the guild too!) who meet every week and have an annual quilt show, they are busy, busy, busy!
I lectured on the first morning "Show Us Your Fat Quarters - Canadian Style" and there were many Canadian snowbirds in the guild! In the afternoon I taught Heart of My Heart from my DVD and they had great success with Give & Take Applique.

Here's Lynn with some of her hearts. Lynn was also my hostess and arranged my accomodation at the local golf resort. This was they view from my bedroom! Pretty nice!

The next day 19 ladies and Stewart (one brave fellow!) had great fun and lots of success making their Shattered Angles blocks.

Thanks to everyone for making my visit so memorable!

My project Sunday Brunch has a wonderful project for placemats and a table runner that can use a planned selection of fabrics or a terrific stash buster. Its a great way to get ready for spring (I know, Christmas hasn't even happened yet....)
Check out the article here: http://www.mccallsquilting.com/articles/Sunday_Brunch and remember, you can't go wrong with a blue and yellow combination!

Accent on Angles-More Quilts

I`m adding more images of quilts from my book Accent on Angles-Easy Strip Set quilts. These quilts all feature my Shattered Angles technique - lots of fun and a great way to add details such as a border around a pre-printed panel:

Making Waves uses the same Shattered Angles technique but this time with curved strip piecing, half square triangles and raw edge applique. Lots to learn with this quilt!
More ideas to come another day. In the meantime, you can order the book at www.fabricimagery.com Remember to ask for an autograph!
