Sorry to hog Susan's guess the photo contests (thanks to google reader.):) :) Most of the credit goes to my son for this one. After initial examination of the photo, I suspected signs of a leaf, but my son (without knowing what I thought) proved it to me by finding images on google with similar leaf characteristics.
Susan, if we are correct, you just have to make these harder!
Well, Debbie got it right again! I liked the suggestion of something left oo long in the fridge and Amie has had a lot of fun with the decontructed screen printing! Debbie, send me your mailing address and I'll send you the prize. Did the other one arrive? I think the next one will be harder....
Wow, thanks, Susan. I thought the refrigerator one was good, too! Maybe it was a moldy leaf?:) Yes, I did get your other beautiful piece of hand dyed fabric and thought I had thanked you. I wrote about it on my blog. It's the entry for August 27. Maybe I'll make something now using both pieces!

I thought it was a really bad skin condition but it's more likely a leaf as Debbie has said. I hope so anyway. Lol.
Could it possibly be a screen with dry dye on it ready to be deconstructed?
it looks like a batik fabric to me.
I've seen stuff like this in my refrigerator before!!
